WSR is recruiting for a Temporary Finance Manager for our esteemed client in Milton Keynes


Job Title: Finance Manager

Location: Milton Keynes

Hours: 37 hours per week - 45.25 weeks per year

Contract: Temporary - 6 months

As part of our client's Central Finance Team, you’ll work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), finance staff, and Central team members. Your expertise will support all three Academies within the Trust, influencing strategic decisions while ensuring financial regularity and compliance.


Finance Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Operations: Manage the Trust’s centralized finance function, supporting budget planning, monitoring, and reporting across all Academies.

  • Strategic Influence: Collaborate with school leadership teams to develop financial strategies that align with the Trust’s goals.

  • Ensure Compliance: Oversee audits, financial controls, and adherence to the Academy Trust Handbook, company law, and charity regulations.

  • Drive Financial Performance: Prepare management accounts, conduct variance analysis, manage audits, and lead on year-end financial processes.

  • Develop Teams: Line manage finance staff, providing training, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.


Finance Manager Qualifications and Experience:

  • A formal accountancy qualification or part qualified CCAB, CIMA, ACCA, ISBL

  • A commitment to undertake high level CPD

  • A financial leader with strong management accounting and audit experience.

  • Accounting knowledge of journals, balance sheet and P&L, including experience of Management accounts preparation

  • Skilled in budget oversight, cash flow forecasting, VAT returns, and financial reporting.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to communicate complex financial information clearly.

  • Experienced in developing financial controls and leading teams in a collaborative environment.

  • Knowledgeable in Academy Trust regulations, or eager to learn within this sector.
